This species is endemic to Ngezi Forest, on Pemba Island, in Tanzania. It occurs close to sea-level.

It appears to be dependent on lowland forest. At its only known site it was found calling in forest trees overhanging a small pool, but it was absent from the grasses and herbage at the other end of the same pool in a more open situation. It presumably breeds in water by larval development.
