Range Description

This newly described species has been found in Indonesia (more specifically in Kalimantan and Java), New Caledonia (Lifou) and Mauritius (Moolenbeek 2008). As this species was described in 2005 it is possible that the full extent of its range has not been determined yet. Also reported from the Philippines, Hawaii, Bismarck Archipelago, and French Polynesia, but these require confirmation.

The EOO, AOO and number of locations exceed the thresholds for criteria B1 and B2.

Justification
This is a recently described species that is distributed in Mauritius, Indonesia, New Caledonia and reported from the Philippines, Hawaii, Bismarck Archipelago, and French Polynesia. There are very few specimens although it has a wide distribution. There are no known major threats. We listed this as Data Deficient owing to some doubts on its distribution and abundance.

Wikipedia

Conus mcbridei

Conus mcbridei is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Conidae, the cone snails and their allies.[2]

Like all species within the genus Conus, these snails are predatory and venomous. They are capable of "stinging" humans, therefore live ones should be handled carefully or not at all.
