Citharinidae
"Lutefish" redirects here. It is not to be confused with lutefisk.
Citharinidae, the lutefishes, is a small family of characiform fish. They are fresh-water fish native to Africa, and are sufficiently abundant to be a significant food fish.[1]
They are deep-bodied, silvery fish, measuring up to 84 centimetres (33 in) in length and weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 lb). They are filter-feeders.[1]
Genera[edit]
The family contains three genera:
- Genus Citharidium
- Genus Citharinops
- Genus Citharinus
