Bdelloidea are a group of completely asexual animals, with pseudosegmented body, paired ovaries and ramate trophi. It is composed of four families in three orders, to accommodate 20 genera and about 450 species: order Adinetida with family Adinetidae (1 genus), order Philodinida with families Habrotrochidae (3 genera) and Philodinidae (13 genera), and order Philodinavida with family Philodinavidae (3 genera).
Only five of the genera reported from saline waters: Adineta, Mniobia, Philodina, Rotaria and Zelinkiella.
