Range Description

Amsonia orientalis has been reported from Greece and from northwest Turkey. It has been collected only once in northern Greece, between the Porto Lagos and the town of Xanthi in 1972 (Zahariadi 1973), and from lagoons in Nomos Rhodopi in 1984 and 1989 (Drossos 1992) and the current status of the species in Greece is uncertain.

Previously thought likely to be extirpated from Turkey, during fieldwork on the plant conducted by Prof. Dr. Fazıl Özen and supported by the Scientific Research Projects Unit of Kocaeli University since 1999, it has been determined that populations of the plant in Bursa and Halkalı (Istanbul) have become completely lost, but it has been found within a very narrow area in the Ömerli Basin (Akyalçın et al. 2006).
