Description

 Thallus: crustose, forming orbicular patches up to 0.7 cm wide, irregular in outline, poorly differentiated, thin to +verrucose, continuous; surface: pale gray when dry, bright green when wet, smooth, glossy; medulla: not evident; Apothecia: rare, 1.5-2 mm wide; disc: reddish brown or deep brown, flat or concave; exciple: hyaline, composed of a loosely anastomosing network of thin hyphae in a gelatinous matrix, up to 100 µm thick; hymenium: hyaline below and thinly brown above , 70-100 µm tall; paraphysoid lumina: c. 1 µm wide; hypothecium: pale brown; asci: cylindro-clavate, 2-8-spored; ascospores: hyaline, ellipsoid, submuriform to muriform, (2-)3-4(-7) septate transversely, 1-3 septate longitudinally, (16-)20-26(-28) x (8-)9-12(-14) µm; Hyphophores: abundant, capitate, white or translucent, crowded, erect, stipitate, 1-1.8 mm tall; diaspores: ephemeral, numerous, branched, +150 µm long, 1.5 µm thick, septate near the base; Spot tests: all negative; Secondary metabolites: none detected.; Substrate and ecology: on mosses or detritus in an oak forest, more rarely on soil at 1700 to 2100 m; World and Sonoran distribution: currently only known from the Sierra Madre Occidental region of Chihuahua.
