Distribution

Sand cherry is widely distributed across the northern half of the United States and eastern Canada. It occurs from Quebec and Newfoundland south to Tennessee and Arkansas and west to Utah, Montana, and Saskatchewan [10,43]. Varieties: Western sand cherry occurs from Ontario south to Arkansas and west to Utah, Montana, and Saskatchewan. Eastern sand cherry occurs from Quebec and Newfoundland south to Tennessee and west to Ontario. Great Lakes sand cherry occurs from Ontario south to Pennsylvania and west to Iowa and Minnesota. Sesquehana sand cherry occurs from Quebec and Newfoundland south to Virginia and west to Minnesota and Manitoba [43,80].
