Transmitted by the eggs of the nematode Heterakis gallinae (Lund and Chute, 1973). Description by Tyzzer (1920), Wenrich (1943), Honigberg and Bennett (1971), McDougald and Reid (1978); electron microscopy by Schuster (1968), Rybicka et al. (1972). Type species: H. meleagridis.
