Description of Rhizamoeba

Limax-like in rapid motion, often eruptive. Anterior with a hyaline zone, posterior usually with conspicuous trailing filaments. Less active forms are flattened, sometimes with peripheral filaments. Most uninucleate, but some species multinucleate. Nucleus difficult to observe in living cells. Marine, freshwater and soil species; some form cysts. Type species: R. polyura Page, 1972.
