Description of Raphidiophrys

Centroheliozoa with flat tangential siliceous scales consisting of two parallel plates connected by internal radial septae (seen in scanning electron-micrographs as radial striations or ribs). The scale has a hollow marginal rim. Radial elements are absent. May form clusters of cells. Type species: R. viridis Archer, 1867.
