Terrestrial, lithophytic or epiphytic plants. Rhizome scandent or wide-creeping, laterally branched, with peltate rhizome-scales. Stipe articulated. Fronds monomorphic; approximate or widely spaced; simple (Oleandra) or pinnate to 2-pinnatifid (Arthropteris). venation free, simple, forked or pinnately branched, ending in or near the margin, apex often thickened or teminating in calcareous hydathodes. Axes and lamina surfaceswith filiform glandular and eglandular hairs. Sori circular, superficial or terminal on veins; insusium kidney-shaped.
