Brief Summary
Read full entryBanasa dimiata is a colorful, phytophagous stink bug widely distributed and commonly found in the United States and Canada from Vancouver Island to California and Quebec to Florida. It is associated with trees and shrubs in a number of different families including Rosaceae, Ericaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Betulaceae, Fagaceae, and Pinaceae (DeCoursey 1963, Mc Pherson 1982).
Say (1831) originally described this species as Pentatoma dimiata, but LeConte (1859) emended the name to dimidiata. While some have accepted this emendation (Hoffman 2005), both names remain in use (Froeschner 1988).
