Climbers or climbing shrubs. Leaves opposite. Inflorescences of short terminal or axillary spikes. Flowers showy, bisexual. Receptacle produced into long tube beyond the ovary; sepals 5, small, recurved. Petals 5. Stamens 10. Fruit 5-angled or 5-winged, dry and leathery, dehiscent at apex along angles.     Receptacle
