Occurs in shallow areas of rivers and creeks, with sandy substrate and a strong current. Feeds on algae. Is relatively abundant and is often found together with Leporinus despaxi, Bryconops affinis and Eigenmannia virescens (Ref. 12225). Generally swims with the head oriented downward (Ref. 27188).
