This species is found in tropical America along both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and in western Africa. However, the limits of its distribution are not well known. In the Caribbean, it is found from southern Florida to Rio de Janiero. In the eastern Pacific, it is found from southern Mexico to northern Ecuador. Along the western African coast, it is found from Guinea to Angola.
