Omphalotaceae
The Omphalotaceae is a family in the Agaricales. It was first described by Bresinsky in 1985[1] as a segregate from the Tricholomataceae and validated more recently by molecular phylogenetic analysis, which has determined that the Tricholomataceae are polyphyletic.
Some concepts restrict this taxon to Omphalotus (the type genus) and several small genera that are closely related. Broader concepts include the lentinuloid clade (which includes Gymnopus, Rhodocollybia, Micromphale, and Lentinula, among other genera) in the Omphalotaceae.
The Jack O'Lantern mushroom (Omphalotus olearius) is a well-known member of this family. Shiitake is included in the more broad definition of this family.
