Physical Description

Morphology

Smittoidea reticulata is an encrusting bryozoan that forms broad irregular sheets often of considerable size. Colonise are silvery and bright when fresh. Autozooids are oval, rectangular or irregular in outline. They are 0.5-0.8 by approximately 0.3 mm.

The species is able to colonise stones, shells and other bryozoans in subtidal waters. It is commonly found encrusting the subtidal bryozoan Pentapora foliacea.
