General Description
Puellina corbula is an encrusting bryozoan. Colonies form irregular, spreading sheets, composed of a single layer of autozooids. Autozooids are broadly oval to irregularly polygonal, rather flat and separated by distinct grooves. They range in size from 0.25-0.45 by 0.17-0.24 mm. Four spines are present on reproductive (with an ovicell) zooids, and seven in non-reproductive zooids.
The species is able to colonise hard substrates. It ranges from 73-106 metres. Puellina corbula is a northeast Atlantic species. It is known from the English Channel, off Brittany and a single specimen (NHMUK 1911.10.1.753) labelled “Belfast”.
Puellina corbula is most closely comparable with Puellina Africana and the Mediterranean species, Puellina pedunculata.
