Pink wintergreen is most common throughout Canada and the northern United States. However, in the western United States, pink wintergreen occurs as far south as New Mexico and California. In the southwestern United States, pink wintergreen is restricted to high-elevation habitats [1,28,35]. Pyrola asarifolia subsp. asarifolia is more widely distributed than P. a. subsp. bracteata and occupies the entire range described for pink wintergreen. Pyrola asarifolia subsp. bracteata is restricted to the western United States and Canada. In the United States, P. a. subsp. bracteata does not occur farther east than Montana .
