This species is extremely dependant on a frequent fire regime and will begin to decline after 3 years without the disturbance of fire. Competition and shading from encroaching hardwood shrubs will threaten the resilience and health of this species in addition to being smothered by accumulating leaf litter. Mowing can often rejuvenate Texas Trailing Phlox, but fire is preferred. It will rebloom within 2-4 weeks after a fire regardless of the season.
