Reasons: Widely distributed around the Caribbean including southern Florida, Veracruz, Mexico, the Greater Antilles, and Venezuela. It is also found on the Pacific coast from Costa Rica to northern Ecuador. Except for Venezuela and the Greater Antilles, it is usually restricted to coastal beaches and mangrove fringes.
