Panamint cat's eye (Cryptantha angustifolia) - also known as the Popcorn Flower - is an annual "forb" (a herbaceous flowering plant other than a grass) in the Boraginaceae family. Native to the American southwest (AZ, CA, NM, NV, TX, UT) and northern Mexico where it is found along roadsides and sandy river bottoms, flats, and washes in the deserts, it grows from two to ten inches tall, with white, tightly-coiled, small (1/8 inch) flower buds at the very top of the plant. It's short (1 1/2 inch), narrow, hairy leaves are a dull gray-green. It germinates in the fall and blooms from February through March.
