my colleague, Nadia Talent, has pointed out that "...it looks as if someone could misinterpret [Schneider's] abbreviations to mean that he is citing Lindley's Amelanchier racemosa, when he is actually citing that as a synonym of E. grandiflora Lindl." My own examination of p. 494 in Schneider (1906) leads me to agree with Nadia. the IOPI entry for this species refers to the Rosaceae database, where it appears that a taxonomic conclusion from an unpublished thesis may have been accepted uncritically.
