Global Range: (20,000-200,000 square km (about 8000-80,000 square miles)) The core, and recent, range is the northern and central portions of prairie region, with most records from Wisconsin, northeastern Illinois east across northern Indiana into southern Michigan and central Ohio. The range extent estimate is based on this core range. Isolated records in Missouri, Iowa, and western Minnesota suggest a formerly larger range but the species is not known to occur in those states now. A phenotypically unusual isolated population occurs in Otsego County, Michigan, and this species was collected in Hardin County, Kentucky in 2002 (email to D. Schweitzer from Ellis Laudermilk) and verified by several experts. Metzler et al. (2005) provide a very complete map of known collection localities.
