Range Description

Coryphanta pycnacantha is endemic to Mexico, where it is reported to occur in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Veracruz (Hunt et al. 2006). Arias et al. (1997) also report the species from the state of Oaxaca, at elevations of 1,400 to 2,100 m asl. The extent of occurrence is large (28,000 km²), but there are only a few locations left.
