Diagnosis
Funnel-mantle locking apparatus straight, simple. Buccal connectives attach dorsally to arm pairs I and II, ventrally to arms pairs III and IV. Gladius with long, slender rachis; true vane lacking. Conus extremely elongate; mid-ventral fusion apparent. Club 80% or more of tentacle length; 6 distinct longitudinal sucker rows; dactylus and carpus not present. Head extremely small. Fins short. Mantle long, slender, produced into long, pointed tail posteriorly. Viscera compact, located near anterior end of mantle cavity (except gonads).
Type-species: Batoteuthis skolops, new species.”
