Range Description

Theodoxus altenai is only known from its type locality, namely Kirkgöz Kaynaği, i.e. a karstic spring complex (also mentioned as Lake Bunarbaşa or Pinarbaşi) in southern Antalya, Turkey (Ȫzbek et al. 2010). The mention by Glöer and Rhäle (2009) of this species in a stream at the spring-complex near Ȫküzini pertains to the same locality. It should be noted that among the pictures of Neritidae from the collection of the Natural History Museum of Rotterdam, Theodoxus altenai is shown with the locality 'Terkoz Lake near Istanbul' (Trauser and Slieker, 2012). This last mention is highly doubtful.
