Scrambling shrub, armed with sharp, paired, hooked thorns. Young stems greenish with short hairs, mostly hairless when older. Leaves usually alternate, sometimes clustered on dwarf lateral shoots, broadly elliptic, 1.5-4.5 cm, sparsely hairy or hairless; apex rounded, often notched; margins entire. Flowers in clusters on short lateral branchlets, white or cream, c. 1.5 cm in diameter. Fruit spherical, 6-15 mm in diameter, fleshy, purple-black when ripe. Stalk-like gynophore 12-15 mm long.Trusted
