Range Description

This species is strictly endemic to the coast of Eritrea and to the Dahlak archipelago that lies off its shores (Röckel et al. 1995). There may be a subspecies found in the northern Red Sea, but this needs validation (G. Raybaudi pers. comm. October 2011).

The EOO, AOO and number of locations would exceed the thresholds for criteria B1 and B2 if the species exists along the entire coast of Eritrea (2,240 km). However, if the populations are fragmented and/or are restricted to the Dahlak archipelago and the mainland adjacent to the islands the AOO would be within the range for criterion B2.
