Range Description

Globally, this species is widespread in northeast and East Africa. The western limit is Lake Chad.

Eastern Africa: It is very widespread in eastern Africa. It is common in Lakes Edward and Victoria (Uganda), Naivasha and Jipe (Kenya). Also occurs in various parts of Tanzania and Burundi.

Northeastern Africa: It occurs in the Sudanese Nile northwards to Jebel Aulia (Sudan) and in Lakes Zwai, Awasha and Abaya (Ethiopia).

Western Africa: Lake Chad is the western-most range of this species.
