Range Description

This is a widespread species in the Neotropics. It occurs from Colombia in the north southwards to Argentina. It is not present in Mesoamerica or the Caribbean (Cuba); records from these place refer to the sister species E. hookeri. Epiphyllum phyllanthus is the most widespread cactus species in Eastern Brazil, where it has been reported from Cear, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, near sea level to at least 1,300 m asl (Taylor and Zappi 2004).
