Separated into two species (Acesta bullisis and A. oopaga) after molecular analysis of four genes (12S, 16S, Cytb and COI). Morphological traits support the separation of the two species.
Description: Valves are thin, translucent and equivalve. The anterior ears are almost reduced, posterior conspicuous, triangular in shape, but weakly bound from the main valve. Moderately inflated with weak wavy radiating ribs with fine concentric lines. The periostracum is thin and brown. The animal is deep orange colour with long tentacles. The maximum shell height is 153 mm.
