Most of the remaining plants are in the suburbs of a major urban center on Maui. Portions of this population have been recently destroyed by development. Competition with alien plants also poses a threat.

Scaevola coriacea
Scaevola coriacea, the Dwarf Naupaka, is a species of flowering plant in the Goodenia family, Goodeniaceae, that is endemic to Hawaii.
Description
Dwarf Naupaka is a low, flat-lying perennial herb. Its older stems are somewhat woody, and the succulent leaves are oval-shaped, relatively far apart, and smooth or somewhat scaly with rounded tips. Flowers occur in branched inflorescences from the point of leaf attachment in groups of one to three.[2]
Conservation
Today, Dwarf Naupaka exists only on Maui and two offshore islets. Historically, it could be found on six islands. The total population is less than 300 plants, making Dwarf Naupaka an endangered species.[2]

Comments: GENUS FOUND IN AUSTRALIA, COASTS OF TROPICAL ASIA, AFRICA, AND POLYNESIA. ALTHOUGH THIS SPECIES HAS BEEN COLLECTED ON ALL OF THE MAJOR HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, THE EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT IT WAS NEVER WELL ESTABLISHED ON ANY BUT MAUI ISLAND.
