Habitat: P. abdita is possibly a grassland species. In the original description, it was reported from open areas and beneath boards and pieces of slate in a back yard in southern Ohio.

Natural History: All native Pyramica are cryptic inhabitants of plant litter and organic-rich soil, and hunt Collembola and perhaps other small hexapods, using stealth and snap jaws to capture prey. How the various species manage to partition the food resources, other than some apparent habitat differences, is unknown. Particular effort must be made to understand the habitat and dietary preferences of these secretive ants.
