Range Description

This gecko is endemic to the Cape Verde islands, where it has been recorded from the islands of So Vincente, Santo Anto and So Nicolau (Arnold et al. 2008); the subspecies Hemidactylus bouvieri razonensis has been recorded from two members of the Desertas island group (Santo Luzia and Raso - Gruber and Schleich 1982, Mateo et al. 1997). Its continued presence on Santiago and Brava is uncertain, as the most recent record from Santiago is from Mertens (1955), and it is only known from Brava from a specimen collected in 1899 (Andreone 2000). The species has also been reported from Fogo island, however, the attribution of historical Fogo records is uncertain following the recent description of H. lopezjuradoi (Arnold et al. 2008). All recent records from this island refer to this latter form (Arnold et al. 2008).
