Habitat and Ecology

This species grows to 15-34 mm; it is more commonly found on intertidal benches, however it also occurs within coral reefs and at depths of up to 100 m (Röckel et al. 1995). In the intertidal range they are regularly found in algae-bound sand within small sand-filled depressions, coral rubble and crevices of rocks within limestone and beachrock benches, whereas in the subtidal range they are found on the reef flat, lagoon pinnacles and deeper reef habitats. They also occur within coral rubble, dead coral crevices or algal turf (Röckel et al. 1995). This species only feeds on errant polychaetes (Ragworms) (Kohn 1959).

Wikipedia

Conus sponsalis

Conus sponsalis, common name the sponsal cone, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Conidae, the cone snails and their allies.[1]

Like all species within the genus Conus, these snails are predatory and venomous. They are capable of "stinging" humans, therefore live ones should be handled carefully or not at all.
