The rayed trough shell is found in the sea bottom beyond the low-tide mark and deeper. The shell is thin, smooth and shiny. Single and double valves wash ashore regularly on all Dutch beaches. Live specimen sometimes wash ashore in large numbers after a storm or frost, and then usually between the Hook of Holland and Den Helder.
