John Game commented on "Taxonomy":
Botrychium pumicola has been confirmed from California, on Mount Shasta. The original specimen was mistakenly reidentified and is in fact Botrychium pumicola, as first thought. Plants of B. pumicola were also found on Mount Shasta in 2009 and 2010. Both the original and a recently discovered plant have been identified by Don Farrar and others.

John Game commented on "National Distribution":
Botrychium pumicola occurs on Mount Shasta, California, as well as in Oregon. The original 1941 Californian collection has been confirmed as B. pumicola, and the species was relocated on the Mountain near the original site, just south of Diller Canyon at about 9,000 feet elevation on Shastina, in 2009. The identity has been confirmed by Don Farrar using isozyme analysis as well as morpholgical and ecological considerations. The known Californian population is small - less than ten individuals were seen in 2009 and in 2010 - but many more may occur on the Mountain. The site is remote and has not been exhaustively searched, in addition many plants may not emerge from the ground except in wet years.
