This little-known East African species has been recorded from south-western Tanzania northwards to central Kenya. Although not mapped by Kingdon (1971), the species does occur marginally in Uganda, with one confirmed record close to the Uganda/Kenya border at Mount Moroto (T. Davenport pers. comm.). They have been recorded at altitudes from 80-2,135 m asl (T. Butynski and Y. de Jong pers. comm.).
