Wingspan around 26 mm. Ground color of fore and hind wings whitish with gray areas, and checkered terminal lines. Forewings with strong yellowish-buff along costa and termen, cell patch pale buff, reniform and orbicular spots small, lunular and round respectively. Genitalia described by Munroe (1976). The strong contrasting coloration of the forewings of this species easily separates it from other Loxostege prairie species, except for L. indentalis which is larger and has less contrasting white and gray forewing markings.
