General DescriptionThe Homalonotidae are a fairly common group of trilobites that originate in the earliest Ordovician and persist throughout the Silurian and into the Devonian. Characteristically, the group is known for being effaced. Ordovician homalonotids are somewhat character rich, however Silurian and Devonian species become increasingly generalized. As an example, the species Trimerus delphinocephalus is incredibly effaced, almost losing its characteristic trilobation.
