Alpheus aequus is a snapping shrimp associated with innkeeper worms (echiurans) (Anker et al. 2007). A. aequus occurs in the eastern Pacific, and is morphologically and genetically similar to two Western Atlantic species of alpheid, Alpheus christofferseni, that are also found in echiuran burrows, (Anker et al. 2007).
