Leaves simple, alternate, subopposite or opposite, sometimes fasciculate on short shoots, typically glabrous and coriaceous. Flowers bisexual, polygamous or unisexual, actinomorphic, in axillary and/or terminal cymes, panicles or thyrses, sometimes with accessory branches, sometimes fasciculate or solitary.
