Description of Phacotaceae

Cells solitary, enclosed within thick-walled envelope or lorica, which at division splits along a predetermined line of rupture or breaks irregularly; usually 2 flagella; biflagellate cells resembling Chlamydomonas/Chloromonas; one poorly known genus (Chlamydoblepharis) colourless.
