Brief Summary
Read full entryMicrogastrinae (Braconidae) is a hyperdiverse and globally ubiquitous subfamily of parasitoid wasps, commonly encountered as pupae or prepupae encased in white silk cocoons on or near the dead or dying bodies of their host caterpillars. All Microgastrinae are obligate endoparasitoids of larval Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), and have a significant long-term physiological interaction with their hosts, in part mediated by a symbiotic relationship with bracoviruses.
