Comments: Henssen and Jorgensen (1990) explain that the name Pyrenopsis rhodosticta has been used widely for several species of Pyrenopsis but that the type specimen corresponds in structure to Cryptothele where they place it. They list Verrucaria rhodosticta in synonymy. Esslinger's May 2011 version of the North American lichen checklist does not yet list Cryptothele rhodostica.
