Edessa rufomarginata is a phytophagous stink bug native to the Americas from Mexico to Argentina  (Silva et al. 2004).  It is often but not exclusively associated with plants in the the family Solanaceae (Panizzi et al. 2000) and occasionally damages crop plants, especially tobacco, potato, eggplant, soybean, sunflower, rice, and corn (Silva et al. 1968, Rizzo and Saini 1987).
