Silver bream look a lot like bream but are lighter in color. However, it is common to come across hybrids between the two species. Just like bream, silver bream look for food on the bottom but their diet is more varied. The species eats crustaceans and small snails, as well as aquatic plants, algae and detritus. In order to reproduce, silver bream need shallow water containing aquatic and shallow water plants. The spawning period lies between May and July. Silver bream can also live in brackish water. In Europe, it is only found in the region west of the Urals and north of the Alps.
