Head flat and broad. Rather short legs. Dorsal surfaces brown with black spots and lines. A light canthal and dorsolateral stripe. Canthus rostralis marked by a black line, continuing onto the upper eyelid. An irregular black canthal line delimiting the dorsal coloration. Ventrum yellow with a few black points at the chest. Throat dark brown. Pupil horizontal.
Very similar to H. kibarae from which it differs in its better-developed gular flap. Colour pattern similar to H. major, which however lacks dorsal asperities.
