This species extends from Chiapas and Tabasco (Mexico) to southeastern Brazil; Peru; northern Bolivia; Guianas; Margarita Island (Venezuela); Trinidad and Tobago (Simmons 2005). Not known to occur in Nicaragua's highlands (Medina pers. comm.).
